About Orange Sky

Orange Sky is the world's-first free mobile laundry and shower service provided to people experiencing homelessness. We offer a platform for everyday Australians and New Zealanders to connect by creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or who feel disconnected from the community. 

We currently operate 36 services across 25 locations in Australia and three services across two locations in New Zealand. There are 116,000 Australians and 41,600 Kiwis experiencing homelessness, and we’re on a mission to positively connect these communities through clean clothes, warm showers, and genuine, non-judgemental conversation.  We’re driven, dedicated, insanely ambitious and a little unconventional. We take our work seriously, but have plenty of fun along the way. We work hard and ‘get it done’, but always make time to celebrate each other’s success.

The Role

Over the last seven years, we’ve positively connected thousands of people including donors, volunteers and friends on the street. We’re always looking to increase our impact and help more Friends on the street – innovation is in our DNA at Orange Sky.  The focus of this role is to oversee the volunteer lifecycle, ensuring volunteer engagement from onboarding to exiting and everything in between.  You will support in designing lifecycle management programs and activities which are both efficient and effective in providing a world class volunteering experience. In one sentence,  we are looking for you to create a ‘wow’ factor in every part of our volunteering program.

In a nutshell, this role is responsible for:

  • Continual improvement of the volunteer experience throughout the volunteer lifecycle
  • Advocating for the ‘volunteer voice’ across all OS teams
  • Developing, coordinating and delivering volunteer engagement programs and activities.
  • Driving quality and consistency of service delivery and culture across our Australian and New Zealand Services
  • Managing volunteer human resources matters, including end-to-end management of the volunteer lifecycle in conjunction with the People & Engagement Team
  • Development and maintenance of volunteer documents, including volunteer handbooks and other documents
  • Developing, coordinating and delivering volunteer retention and reward and recognition programs in conjunction with other operations team members and volunteer leaders
  • Ensuring OS meets national volunteering standards of management
  • Addressing service delivery needs across Australia, including physical attendance in region(s) in some cases

Who are we looking for?

Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast paced environment and has experience in a similar role, ideally within the not-for-profit sector and working with volunteers. Additionally, the ideal applicant has:

  • 3+ years experience in a customer experience/customer service or volunteer engagement role
  • An understanding and passion for volunteering
  • A genuine passion for the work of Orange Sky and issues of homelessness and isolation
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills 
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience 
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage complex and competing demands and meet deadlines  
  • Experience with project management across platforms such as Asana is desired but not essential. 
  • Experience building surveys, analysing data and developing actionable insights will be highly regarded. 
  • Ability to work both independently, and within a team 
  • A proactive attitude.
